This elective unit provides opportunities for undergraduate architecture and design students to learn creative processes by 鈥榙oing鈥, and to 鈥榯hink鈥 through making. Working with creative practitioners in studio settings, students will select and explore a broad range of traditional and experimental techniques including clay modelling, casting and small-scale constructions with wood, plastic, metal and other materials, in rotating 2 x 6-week long blocks. Engaging with hands-on processes of 鈥榤aking鈥, the unit aims to develop and refine students鈥 material and formal appreciation of objects, extend their material and constructive knowledge, and enhance their knowledge and skills to develop spatial creations. Students will design, plan and produce a series of inquisitive three-dimensional objects utilising media explored in class, while rigorously investigating their potential aesthetic and conceptual applications.
