CPNO5303: Graduate Collaborative Piano 1

2027 unit information

This unit enables postgraduate piano students to undertake Collaborative Piano study alongside their Principal Study lessons. Students will form a duo with an SCM singer or instrumentalist and work with their Collaborative Piano tutor to prepare a 25-minute program of vocal or instrumental duo repertoire for an end-of-semester performance examination. Each student will also be assigned to a vocal studio and play for weekly voice lessons.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

LO1. demonstrate an understanding of one or more styles and genres in the Collaborative Piano repertoire.
LO2. improve and develop a nuanced approach to pianistic technique, appropriate to the Collaborative Piano literature.
LO3. demonstrate a heightened awareness of the collaborative skills required to play with instrumentalists and/or singers.
LO4. perform a 25 minute jury-recital with instrumental and/or vocal associate artists.
