2027 unit information

How might we understand diverse gender formations in different cultural contexts? Is it sufficient to think of gender only as identity? How does gender and sexuality link up with questions of race? What work does gender do in different economic and political settings? How might we understand gender in relation to labour? Drawing on the work of major cultural theorists and feminist thinkers this unit examines theoretical conceptualizations and popular representations of gender; the issue of embodiment; and how race and sex are articulated within gendered conceptual frames.
