MUSC3406: Contemporary Music Practice 6

This unit will be taught at Parramatta and Sydney. This unit of study provides students support to plan and create a collaborative Concept-driven EP. In duos or trios you will create an EP (four-tracks/16 minutes) throughout the semester that they write, perform and produce in collaboration with a partner. This concept can be many things 鈥� an aesthetic, a focus on an instrument, the creation of a persona, a specific lyrical theme, and so forth. Students must adhere to this over-arching concept through the creation of their mini-EP. This process will be supported by ongoing instructor and industry feedback, as well as written critical self-reflection. Students will be asked to consider, justify and situate their practice and production of music within both broad and specific contexts. At the conclusion of this unit, students will have developed a cohesive body of work (approximately 16 minutes of music).

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

LO1. demonstrate high level production, performance and song writing skills
LO2. use critical listening to identify professional production techniques and creatively apply these to their own work
LO3. evaluate what 鈥渞elease quality鈥� and 鈥減ublic radio standard鈥� equates to in their own recordings and reflect on their progress in reaching this standard
LO4. devise successful interpersonal feedback strategies, and creatively cooperate to meet deadlines reflecting music industry practice
