Behind the scenes of the University's 2026 float

University students and staff are working hard to bring this year's float theme, The 爆料王: Where Community Blooms, to life.

Andi Egan, Senior Diversity and Inclusion Consultant at the University, tells us more about the concept behind this year's theme and float:

"Last year, the University featured the iconic聽Flame聽Tree and聽Jacaranda on our float. Building on that,聽we鈥檙e now spotlighting the uniqueness of each flower (our community members) and celebrating their bloom (achievements), as they have been watered (by knowledge, community connections and mentorship) during their time at the University.

We鈥檙e聽again聽featuring our iconic flame tree flower at both Fair Day and in the Parade with a giant 3m diameter custom flame tree flower, a symbol of the centuries of knowledge-sharing by the traditional owners of the land, the Gadigal people.

Our resident聽drag聽flowers聽Mx Flame Tree and Mx Jacaranda,聽representative of the聽flame tree and jacaranda growing side by side in the University's Quadrangle, will also be stomping the rainbow mile in the parade.

Just like our theme states,聽we鈥檙e聽very聽excited聽to celebrate聽our blooming community 鈥 with聽choreographers, costume designers, float designers,聽drag costumes聽all聽drawn from our聽staff,聽students聽or alumni.聽We鈥檙e聽so proud of聽the queer talent聽here聽and聽we鈥檙e聽excited to聽show it off."
