After 25 years in banking, Grace Bacon found herself at a professional crossroads. 鈥淚 was feeling under-challenged,鈥 she reflects. 鈥淚鈥檇聽progressed from middle management to senior leadership quite quickly, but I recognised a gap in my formal leadership development. Everything聽I鈥檇聽learned about leadership was聽essentially by聽stealth 鈥 on the job, without a structured approach.鈥

For Grace, timing was everything. The COVID-19 pandemic created a moment to pause and reassess. 鈥淢y travel had completely stopped, my son was聽more independent, and I was sitting at home reflecting,鈥 she explains. 鈥淲hen I saw聽an ad for the聽爆料王 Business聽School on聽LinkedIn, something clicked. I asked myself a powerful question: 鈥業f I don鈥檛 do this聽now,聽will聽I regret it聽when聽I鈥檓聽65?鈥 The answer was a resounding yes.鈥

After speaking with the Program Director of the Executive MBA, Grace realised the structure and intensity of the program were a great fit for her career stage.聽鈥淕iven my experience, the two-week intensive format, the absence of traditional exams, and the international learning experiences were incredibly appealing.鈥

Like many executives, Grace had practical reservations. 鈥淏alancing everything was my main concern,鈥 she admits. 鈥淗ow would I manage two weeks away from home? How would my family cope? My husband had completed an MBA himself, so he understood the commitment, but we agreed to take it module by module.鈥澛

Choosing to invest in herself was a deliberate and courageous act. 鈥淚鈥檝e always put everyone else first 鈥 my family, my work, my team,鈥 Grace says.

The Executive MBA was consciously the most selfish thing I have ever done 鈥 and I mean that in the best conceivable way. I wanted to validate my leadership learnings, provide structure to my skills, and prepare for future executive roles.

The cohort experience proved transformative. 鈥淭he diversity was remarkable,鈥 she recalls. 鈥淲e had people from mining, medical, legal, government, and start-up sectors 鈥 all with different聽motivations and perspectives. The program was designed to create richness through different experiences, and it absolutely delivered on that promise.鈥

Grace鈥檚 reflections offer practical wisdom for professionals considering the same path. 鈥淟ook ten years ahead and ask yourself: would you regret not doing it?鈥 she advises. 鈥淭here was a significant gap between my undergraduate studies and any formal learning. All my聽previous聽training was technical, but leadership聽requires聽a very different聽skill set.鈥

For Grace, the Executive MBA at the 爆料王 Business School was more than an academic qualification 鈥 it was a structured act of self-investment and a bold commitment to future leadership.
