Professional accreditation

This course is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board of NSW (LPAB) and graduates are eligible to practise law in New South Wales.

Upon admission as a lawyer, you are also eligible for admission in other Australian states and territories, either directly or under the Mutual Recognition Scheme. This course can be used as a basis for seeking admission in many law jurisdictions overseas. Please check with the jurisdiction in which you wish to practice.

Important: the Business School is currently progressing proposals for professional accreditation for 2027 with the Certified Practising Accountant Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and the Australian Human Resources Institute. Further information regarding professional accreditation will be published in August 2026.

What you鈥檒l study

You will study the Bachelor of Commerce concurrently with Bachelor of Laws foundational core requirements. Bachelor of Commerce requirements include core foundational units of study in commerce:

Fundamentals of Professional Success;
Accounting and Finance for Business Decisions;
Problem Solving in Business and Society; and
Data Analytics in Business

You will also select a major from the Bachelor of Commerce with a capstone unit of study, along with units of study from the Open Learning Environment and elective units of study as required from the Bachelor of Commerce or the Shared Pool (Table S).

After meeting the requirements of the Bachelor of Commerce, you will progress to the Bachelor of Laws, completing a number of core and elective units of study from the Sydney Law School Undergraduate Table in a specific sequence.

The elective units of study will include at least one jurisprudence elective, and in your final year of the Bachelor of Laws you will have the option to complete advanced coursework and an honours thesis.
