This all鈥憈ime high is testament to the dedication and commitment of our community across Australia 鈥 from the Quadrangle, to NSW regional communities, to our research station in the Great Barrier Reef.
In June, we farewelled Belinda Hutchinson AC (BEc 鈥76)听as our 18th Chancellor. Many of you have come to know听Belinda since she took office in 2013, and have seen first鈥慼andher passion for the University鈥檚 work, her dedication and听unrivalled work ethic. As Chancellor, she presided over听65 graduation ceremonies, shaking hands with more than听8500 graduands. She has been a tireless advocate for the听University externally. And under her leadership, the campus听has been transformed, with new facilities enabling innovative听approaches to multidisciplinary research and teaching.
Belinda鈥檚 clear focus has been key to our success听over the past decade, setting us up to become one of听the best鈥慻overned and most successful universities听in Australia. We have been very fortunate to have her听as our Chancellor 鈥 and are deeply grateful to her and听her family for their donations to the MySydney and听Eureka Benevolent Foundation scholarships, which听benefit rural and regional students.
With thanks to our supporters, the University has made听great strides in the two years since the launch of the听Sydney in 2032 strategy towards more equitable access to听education. The MySydney scholarships, for example, have听enabled a 62 percent increase in enrolments from students听from low鈥憇ocioeconomic areas, and this comprehensive听program has also improved retention rates for MySydney听students compared to the broader undergraduate domestic听cohort. We are proud to be building a place of learning that听helps students from all backgrounds to thrive.
We are also working towards changing how Australia听thinks about innovation and commercialisation,听playing a leadership role in building an ecosystem that听brings together academics, government and the private听sector to transform academic research into commercial听products and services, government policy or healthcare听innovations. Much of this work has already begun 鈥 once听again thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
You can find stories of how we are translating technology听鈥 taking it from the lab to serving communities 鈥 within听these pages. Other stories highlight the diverse passions听of our donor community, the students and researchers听they empower, and the programs they enable. From听groundbreaking heart health innovations to restoring听a 450鈥憏ear鈥憃ld manuscript, and from improving food听security to boosting mental health research, your听contributions are enabling transformational change.
The work we do here at the 爆料王 is critical听to the future success, wellbeing and prosperity of our nation.听But this work does not happen in isolation 鈥 innovation听and excellence in education and research can only occur听through meaningful collaboration. As universities across听Australia grapple with significant shifts in higher education听policy, engagement with our community will be more听important than ever.
We are sincerely grateful to you, our听friends and supporters, and look forward to our continued听partnership over the coming years.
