Cutting-edge research at the centre

17 December 2021
Responsive, ethical and inclusive automated decision-making.
Summer research assistants share what they are working on, and why they are so excited to be part of the Centre for Automated Decision-Making and Society.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society聽(ADM+S) is an interdisciplinary research institute that seeks to investigate automated decision-making and how it can be used responsibly and ethically.聽 Spanning public and private sectors, the Centre focuses on how the use of automated decision-making impacts everyday life.

At the official launch in December 2021, we spoke to the Centre's summer research assistants to find out more about the聽range of research projects they are working on.

In addition to the unique collaboration across eight Australian universities, it was the breadth of topics and the potential to make a difference to the way emerging technologies are used ethically in society, that stood out to the research assistants.聽

"We were attracted to the centre and its commitment to address the accountability and transparency challenges created by algorithms and AI used to automate and support decision-making. We wanted to understand how these emerging technologies should be regulated and deployed ethically to avoid misuse by data holders and unintended societal consequences."

The Centre鈥檚 research aims to inform public discussion about rapidly evolving technologies that impact people鈥檚 day-to-day lives.
