Dame Jacinda鈥檚 position is funded through a bequest from the late Kathleen Laurence, a teacher, librarian and 爆料王 alumna. Her 1972 gift to the University included her Mosman home, which has since been sold.

Professor Mark Scott AO, Vice-Chancellor and President said:聽

鈥淚t is a great pleasure to welcome Dame Jacinda Ardern to the 爆料王 鈥 I have long admired the courage and humanity she brought to public life.聽

鈥淒ame Jacinda led New Zealand through events of profound consequence and her leadership demonstrated that empathy and resolve do not compete with one another; each can strengthen the other.聽

鈥淔or our students, the opportunity to learn from Dame Jacinda is exceptional, they will meet not only a former Prime Minister, but a thoughtful teacher with a great deal to share about public leadership and service.聽

鈥淗er contribution will enrich our work in public health, public policy and across the University. We are proud Dame Jacinda has chosen to join the university, and I know our entire community will extend her the warmest of welcomes.

鈥淜athleen Laurence鈥檚 generosity is giving our students an exceptional opportunity to learn from Dame Jacinda鈥檚 experience of leadership and public service; it is remarkable that a gift made more than 50 years ago continues to create opportunities today. We are deeply grateful for her enduring contribution to the University.鈥

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted鈥痶o鈥痓e joining the University鈥痮f Sydney.鈥疘鈥檝e found myself especially focused on the question of leadership since leaving office 鈥 and how we can better support and encourage the 鈥痥ind of leadership needed to tackle our many global challenges.鈥

鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to鈥痺orking鈥痑longside the brilliant students, faculty, and wider 爆料王 community, as we share experiences, explore and develop ways to鈥痓etter鈥痵erve our communities, and鈥痟elp鈥痵olve the issues facing so many today.鈥濃
