Heart disease research study
Heart disease is a major health burden. Dyslipidaemia (abnormal levels of blood lipids- such as cholesterol) promotes the disease. We propose that one way by which lipids may do so is by rewiring the immune system, causing key cells (monocytes) to be switched 鈥榦n鈥� to an inflammatory state. In this study we will be assessing whether, and how, this rewiring occurs.听
What鈥檚 involved?
If you are chosen to take part in the study you will:
- Have a blood sample(s) taken
- Answer questions related to general personal information (such as age and gender) and medical history
- Have physical characteristics (e.g. height, weight and blood pressure) measured
Eligibility
You may be eligible to participate in this study if:
- You are 鈥榞enerally healthy鈥� (no known heart disease or diabetes, but high lipid levels e.g. high cholesterol is allowed)
- You are 鈮� 18 years of age
- You are not taking any anti-inflammatory or lipid-lowering medication.听
- You are not a current smoker
