Over a century ago, we welcomed the first international students to our community. Since then, students from more than 135 different countries continue to choose our University, building our rich and diverse community on campus as well as our active, global alumni networks. 

To celebrate over 100 years of welcoming international students to our community, we're hosting a range of events and activities on campus throughout Semester 2, including a celebratory BBQ, art exhibition and symposium.

Events to celebrate over 100 years of global connections

Celebratory BBQ event

Join us on campus Wednesday 16 August from 12 to 2 pm for our This special event, sponsored by the Vice-Chancellor, includes a range of activities to celebrate our global community, including: 

• Free BBQ lunch and other food and drinks 
• Performances from student society ethnocultural dance groups
• Indigenous painting workshop 
• A mechanical surfboard 
• Calligraphy workshops with the School of Languages and Cultures 
• Students and staff from Student Life, Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF), Student Representative Council (SRC), Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA), Sydney Future Students (SFS) and Alumni to chat to you about support and opportunities. 

Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) Student Soccer World Cup  

Join us on campus Thursday 17 August from 10 am to 3 pm at The Square (Arena Sports Centre) to take part in a mixed soccer tournament. There will be free food, live music and plenty of fun soccer to get involved in. Players of all abilities are welcome to participate.

Exhibition | 100 years of global connections

The , set to be held in September–November, will feature a range of creative works by current students. The exhibition will reflect on the past 100 years of global connections and celebrate our diverse student communities. 

Symposium | International students and the ±¬ÁÏÍõ: insights and research

This student-led symposium aims to gather academics, student representatives, and staff to share their insights on international students’ experiences at the ±¬ÁÏÍõ. The symposium will be held on Thursday 19 October and include key note speakers and two panel discussions; ‘learning and teaching in a culturally diverse environment in Australia’ and ‘researching in a higher education context in Australia.’

Digital storytelling project | 100 years of global connections: international students and the ±¬ÁÏÍõ

The seeks to raise awareness of the contributions of our international student cohort. Students are invited to share a range of digital materials for the collection, including photographs, recordings, personal diaries and artworks. Share your contribution on the (log in with your University email and UniKey), for the chance to be featured in the collection.
