Director Professor leads the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre鈥檚 strategic and operational management, supported by Professor , Deputy Director, Research Development, Associate Professor , Deputy Director, Partnerships and Olivia Simmons, Chief Operating Officer.听The Centre鈥檚 operations are overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global and Research Engagement).听
Our Advisory Committee includes external members who provide advice, support and direction to the Centre. They serve as a source of independent advice to the Centre鈥檚 leadership team regarding the strategy and external engagement.
The Centre is also supported by a Leaderships Group composed of academic members associated with the Centre, Country Convenors and Grand Challenge Champions.
Country Convenors serve as focal points for activities related to each country in the region. They advise on strategic developments in different countries and bring together researchers across the 爆料王 who work in the eleven countries of the region.
Our Grand Challenge Champions help advance the 爆料王鈥檚 strategic engagement with Southeast Asia by fostering multidisciplinary research and academic leadership.
听is the Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, and a Professor of Respiratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is an international clinical trialist and epidemiologist whose research focuses upon tuberculosis (TB) and chronic lung disease. Over the past fifteen years, he has established a clinical research group in Vietnam which has conducted multicentre studies into the prevention and detection of TB in resource-limited settings. His research, in combination with evidence reviews for the World Health Organisation, have contributed to changes in global TB policies and clinical practice. Professor Fox also works clinically as a Respiratory Physician at Sydney鈥檚 Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and is Area Director for Tuberculosis Services for Sydney Local Health District. He is also strongly committed to building research capacity in Australia and internationally.
听is a Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University鈥檚 School of Economics. He is a member of the SSEAC Executive and member of the executive of the Sydney Vietnam Academic Network. His research interests are in the economics of climate change, the economics of agricultural policy, and the economics of water, energy and the environment. Tiho has researched on these topics in various regions of the world, including in Southeast Asia, primarily in Vietnam and Indonesia. He was the Managing Editor-in-Chief of theAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics听until 2023.
听is Program Director of the Master of Management at the 爆料王 Business School and member of the SSEAC Executive. Her research focuses on the nature, perception and management of risk, and its impact on equity and sustainability in Southeast Asia. She also explores how transformative learning can reshape approaches to risk and sustainability. Previously she worked in strategy and organisation development consulting, and was also a Past President of the Society for Risk Analysis - Australia and New Zealand. Sandra is actively involved in the international Society for Risk Analysis, where she was a former Councillor. She is an Associate Editor of the听Journal of Management Education.听She is also a recipient of an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
Olivia Simmons brings experience in program management, partnerships, operations and funding at local and international organisations. With a background in humanitarian and development programming, Olivia has designed and led initiatives in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines. Olivia has led strategic and operational projects with NGOs, United Nations agencies, the private sector and Universities. Previously she was in the 爆料王鈥檚 Research and Advancement portfolios, where she led major initiatives to grow externally funded research and established the University鈥檚 first international foundations strategy and team.听Olivia is passionate about aligning diverse stakeholder priorities to drive equity, sustainability and real-world impact. She holds a BA in Asian and International Studies and a Master of Social Development.
