The program offers free, accessible care through self-guided digital tools and low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), delivered by trained professionals via phone or video. It is available to Australians aged 16 and over without the need for a GP referral.
For the BMC, the partnership represents a major opportunity to embed research-driven innovation within a national, government-funded service. The work forms part of a broader National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)鈥搒upported program, positioning the University as a key research and innovation partner in the delivery of scalable mental health care.
Central to the BMC鈥檚 role will be improving clinical outcomes, user experience and overall system performance and quality over time. This includes exploring the potential for advanced technologies鈥攕uch as artificial intelligence and data-driven tools鈥攖o personalise care, monitor outcomes and strengthen service effectiveness at scale.
I鈥檓 thrilled to be part of the Medicare Mental Health Check-In team alongside St Vincent's Health Australia. It鈥檚 great to be part of a service whereby there is such a clear commitment to innovation and improvement, underpinned by research.
